The decision to ban meat for four days came in for some severe criticism on the micro-blogging website.

It's fair to say that the decision to ban meat for four days in Mumbai triggered quite a reaction from the Twitterati. After the BJP-ruled Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation banned the sale of meat in the area for eight days this month during the Jain fasting period called Paryushan, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also banned animal slaughter and sale of meat for four days this month in the city. The move was so unpopular that even the MNS, Congress and Shiv Sena opposed it.
According to the Asian Age, the Shiv Sena even went on to protest against the meat ban during Paryushan by taking meat and fish to the municipal commissioner's office.
The demand for the ban was brought up by several Jain organisations and backed by the BJP, whose legislators Raj Purohit and Atul Bhatkhalar had written to BMC chiefs endorsing the demands.
This move comes a few months after the beef ban was enforced in Maharashtra, in which, anyone found selling beef or in the possession of it can be jailed for five years and fined Rs 10,000. While some claimed it was a breach of their fundamental rights, others pointed out that it was a quick way to deflect attention from the sedition law changes. Others felt that the Maharasthra government was interfering too much in their lives.
Few years from now, Maharashtra govt will decide whom you should marry, how many times you should have sex annually, how many kids to have.

Was this what "Na Khaaonga, Na Khange Dunga" meant? (Read: Can you please leave my meat alone?)
Does peace-loving mean exclusion of the piece-loving? #JainMeatBan #ParyushanPradushan

Maximum city. Minimum non-veg. They tell you whom to have sex with, what to eat. All that's left, whom to pray to. Way to go @Dev_Fadnavis.

#MeatBan; it's fishy!

FYI: Fish is still there.
no meat will be sold during the jain fasting period because if you show a fasting jain meat he will eat it and then it will be on us

Maharashtra is behaving like a nagging wife, deciding what you eat #meatban and u can't find faults in it or else #sedition charges

Ouch. It looks like the ban has earned both the BMC, the MBMC and the BJP government some stick.
