Springs 2K15

Springs 2K15, an inter-collegiate cultural festival, was conducted at Fatima College, Madurai, on August 29 in which over 380 students from 15 colleges in and around Madurai participated in a variety of events.

The events included ‘Navarasa Natyaa,’ ‘Syncro Dance,’ ‘Sing and Swirl,’ ‘Art of Accessories’ and ‘Oru Varthai Oru Yugam.’ Nellai Balu, Director, Bharathi Yuva Kendra, addressed the students.

Rev. Fr. Jegath Gasper Raj, Founder, Tamil Maiyyam, delivered the valedictory address and distributed prizes to the winners. Anna Philip of Jeyaraj Annapackiam College, Periyakulam, won the Miss Springs 2K15 title. V. V. Vanniaperumal College, Virudhunagar, bagged the overall trophy and Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi, secured the second place.

Student development programme

Vivekananda College, Tiruvedakam West, organised a student development programme on August 25, in which R. Ilango, former Vice-Principal, spoke about the need to have positive thoughts, concentration and communication skill to improve their personality to face challenges of the outside world.

The Principal, B. Ramamoorthy, in his presidential address, stressed the importance of soft skills. M. Ganapathy welcomed the participants and P. Kumareasan proposed a vote of thanks.

Workshop on robotics

Yadava College, Madurai, conducted a two-day workshop on robotics, ‘i SENSO BOTZ, from August 17 in which students from various colleges presented papers on various aspects of robotics. Narendran, a student from third-year B.Sc. (Physics) of Yadava College was chosen from the workshop to participate in the National Robotics Championship - 2016 to be held in IIT-Madras.

Apex Math

The Department of Mathematics of N.M.S. Sermathai Vasan College for Women, Madurai, conducted Apex Math, an inter-collegiate meet, on August 10. The programme was inaugurated by D. Pandiaraja, Head, PG and Research Department of Mathematics, Thiagarajar College, with a talk on ‘Beyond Mathematics.’ M. Valliammal, Head, Department of Mathematics, welcomed the gathering. College president G. Mariskumar delivered the presidential address.

Vice-Principal D. Karthiga Rani offered felicitations. The overall shield of the meet was won by Madurai Sivakasi Nadars’ Pioneer Meenakshi Women’s College. College vice-president A.M. Selvarajan distributed prizes to the winners. P. Revathi proposed a vote of thanks.

‘Know Thyself’

The Women Empowerment Cell of Madurai Sivakasi Nadars Pioneer Meenkashi Women’s College, Poovanthi, was inaugurated on August 25. C. Ramalakshmi, Principal, delivered a talk on the topic, ‘Know Thyself,’ for second-year students on the occasion.

The coordinator, S. Nithya, welcomed the gathering. College Union president, S. Fathima, third-year B.A.(Tamil), proposed a vote of thanks.

WAVOS’ 15

The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Students' Association, WAVOS’ 15, was inaugurated by S. A. Kamalesh, Scientist, Indian Space Research Organisation, at K. L. N. College of Information Technology, Pottapalayam, Madurai, on August 22. In his address, Mr. Kamalesh spoke about the significant role of EEE engineers and the job opportunities in ISRO and other public sector organisations.

J.S. Gnanasekaran, Principal, presided over the function.

On financial inclusion

A talk on ‘New gen banks and financial inclusion’ was delivered by S. Raja, Branch Head, Federal Bank, at Michael Institute of Management, Madurai, on August 20.

R. Bernardshaw, Director, presided over the meeting. U.K. Nandhini welcomed the gathering and K. Ranjith proposed a vote of thanks.

Toppers felicitated

Tenth standard toppers and teachers who produced centum result in the SSLC public examinations were felicitated at a function organised at Sourashtra Higher Secondary School on August 24. T.K. Subramanian, former professor, delivered the chief guest’s address and distributed prizes to students and honoured teachers. M.N. Sankaran, president, Sourashtra High School Council, presided over the function. M. P. Balan, president, All India TMS Welfare Association, presented a cash award of Rs. 2,000 to S. K. Vishnukumar who had secured 476 marks out of 500. A cash award of Rs. 100 each was given to 32 students who had secured 100 marks in various subjects by M.V. Subburaman, Hindi Co-ordinator, Madurai Kamaraj University.

Students get laptops

State government’s free laptops and bicycles were given away to students of Al-Ameen Higher Secondary School by R. Gopalakrishnan, MP, and A. K. Bose, MLA, respectively at a function organised recently.

Mohamed Idris, correspondent, presided over the function.

S. Sheik Nabi, Headmaster, welcomed the gathering. Shalini Chandran and Abuthahir, Madurai Corporation councillors, addressed the students.
