People flock mausoleums of maryrs in Gujar Khan

Ceremonies held at mazars of two Nishan-e-Haider recipients

GUJAR KHAN: Defence Day ceremonies were held at the mausoleums of two Nishan-e-Haider recipients in Gujar Khan, Captain Sarwar Shaheed and Sawar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, on Sunday.

Local politicians, district officials, representatives of army and a large number of locals visited the mausoleums where they laid wreaths and offered Fateha. Contingents of Pakistan Army presented salute at the two ceremonies.

Brigadier Abrar Hussain, who attended the ceremony at Captain Sarwar Shaheed’s mausoleum in Sanghori village, paid tribute to the martyrs. He said September 6 was a milestone in the country’s history. Hussain said the nation showed an example of unity and repulsed the enemy’s aggression in 1965. He said those who laid down their lives defending the motherland would live on.



Brigadier Azeem attended the ceremony at the mausoleum of Sawar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed in Dhok Sawar Muhammad Hussain near Jatli.

He laid a wreath at the mazar and offered Fateha. Parliamentary Secretary Raja Javed Ikhlas, Gujar Khan Assistant Commissioner Nazia Parveen Sudhan and other officials of the tehsil administration also visited the mausoleums.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Christian Citizen Forum (PCCF) and Pakistan Minority Forum took out a rally in Islamabad to pay tribute to the 1965 martyrs.

PCCF Chairperson Shehryar Shams highlighted the role religious minorities have been playing in the country’s defence. He said Captain Michael Wilson Shaheed laid down his life defending the country near Shakargarh. The speakers urged the government to also highlight the role of non-Muslim soldiers during 1965 and 1971 wars. The participants lit candles and prayed for the martyrs of Pakistan.
