Vihari hits century for Hyderabad

Umang, Mukund too slam tons; Karan picks 5 in Moin-ud-Dowla Cup
Hyderabad: Captain G.H. Vihari led from the front with an unbeaten century as Hyderabad XI made a steady start to their match against MRF in the second round of the annual Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament being played in the twin cities, on Sunday.
Vihari made 126 off 179 deliveries, with 10 fours and a six, as the hosts ended the day on 253 for 3 off 67 overs. Hyderabad got off to a shaky start, losing openers T. Suman (1) and Akshath Reddy (13) even before the score crossed 20. Vihari, who was joined by left-hander B. Sandeep, set about repairing the innings through an 82-run partnership before the latter was out, caught off Sundar Washington for 33.
Vihari and Yathin Reddy then put on an unbeaten 142-run stand for the fourth wicket before the rest of the play was suspended due to rain. Play getting called off for the day was a feature in the other three matches that began on Sunday as well.
Rain played spoilsport in the Food Corporation of India-Air India encounter at DMRC-1 while bad light caused suspension of play in the matches between Hyderabad President’s XI and India Cements (at Gymkhana Grounds), and the Sri Lanka developmental side and ONGC (at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium).
Meanwhile, Abhinav Mukund scored his second consecutive century of the tournament when he made 142 after India Cements took first strike at the Gymkhana Grounds. Left-handed opener Mukund consumed 191 deliveries and hit 13 fours and five sixes as he, along with R. Rohit, put on a massive 241-run stand for the opening wicket. Rohit was unfortunate to get out on 95. Mukund was dismissed 11 runs later.
