Tribal shot dead by Maoists in a village in Odisha

A poster found near the dead body warned villagers from assisting the police

Malkangiri: Maoists gunned down a son of a woman sarpanch, suspecting him to be a police informer at Madakapadar in Malkangiri district, police said on Sunday.

A group of about 20-armed ultras stormed into the village and took away Damu Sisa from his house last night and shot him dead. His body was found on Sunday morning. The deceased’s mother is a village Sarpanch, while his father was a former sarpanch.

A poster found near the body stated that the Maoists killed him as he was operating as an informer of the police in the area, police said. The message in the poster also warned the villagers that they must not assist the police or pass on any information to them, police officials said.

Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said additional police personnel had been sent to the site and security forces have intensified combing operations and patrolling in the area after the incident.
