On Teacher's Day, director Anil C Menon waxed eloquent about his guru from the industry GS Vijayan. The London Bridge director had worked under Vijayan for about eight years before he went on to become an independent director. "After assisting GS Vijayan sir for close to 8 years, I chose not to work under any director as I was most comfortable with the equation we shared," explains Anil about the
Saaphalyamdirector.
Vijayan himself was mentored by Hariharan and passed on those traits to his assistants. "He brings in discipline and utmost sincerity to the craft. He expects the same from all his assistant directors," says Anil, who had directed
Collector and
Ben Johnson.
The director also praises his mentors efforts for backing him when he needed help the most. "Even when I branched out with my independent scripts and directorial projects, he provided ample support. For me as a guru, he is someone who goes the whole nine yards to help his assistants to come in to their own," he says.
