Lonely Planet brings you the greatest travel book in the world ever

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

As we move closer and closer to the holiday season, many of us are breaking out our planners and calenders to lay out our well-deserved vacations. This year, instead of going to Japan like every other person you know, maybe it’s time to strike out and really see what our (relatively) little, blue planet really has to offer. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

To help point you to the most breathtaking locales in the world, Lonely Planet has released the Ultimate Travelist guide, a hefty tome ranking and detailing the 500 most amazing places you can visit from all over the world, perfect for anyone who wants a more varied vacation destination.

The hardcover is laid out in a rather straightforward manner, with pages dedicated to each location. Within these pages, you will find enchanting photos of the different places presented, as well as information on what it is, its history and, most helpfully, brief recommendations on how to best travel to the destination.

Well-known destinations such as the Grand Canyon National Park and the Taj Mahal are included in the book, as well as more obscure destinations such as the Czech Republic’s Charles Bridge or Ireland’s Cliffs of Moher.

The locations included in the book are also quite varied, with museums, streets, squares, temples or even markets included. Certain pages even point you towards other similar locations as the one on that page.

For example, on the page detailing India’s Jaisalmer Fort, you will also find a sidebar that points you to other forts within the book, in case you have a very specific kind of place you’d like to visit.

To make the book an even better deal, it also includes a world map marked with all the 500 destinations detailed in the book, so you can find out the exact regions each of them are located. If you’re looking for a travel guide, you probably won’t find one as extensive and detailed as this one.

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA.

Mont St-Michel, France.

The destination map included with the book.

Machu Picchu, Peru.

Stonehenge, England.
