Roger Federer revealed which Broadway show made him bawl uncontrollably

While in a tennis tournament’s host city, Roger Federer likes to take advantage of the uniqueness of that city rather than frequenting the local Cheesecake Factory or Applebee’s, like many tennis pros. That’s far easier during the U.S. Open, which is played in the cultural mecca of the United States, giving Federer and his family access to museums, fine art, historic buildings and, for our purposes today, Broadway shows.

Watch as The Fed describes what happened when he recently went to see Finding Neverland on Broadway with his family:

Roger Federer: I was crying like crazy. My wife —

Brad Gilbert: You were bawling?

Roger Federer: Oh yeah, I couldn’t control myseslf. […]

Chris McKendry: Roger, sitting in the theater, crying with his daughters.

Roger Federer: Oh, they were asking, what’s wrong with you dad and I was all [mock crying] “I don’t know!”

Finding Neverland follows playwright J.M. Barrie as he summons the courage to become the writer – and the man – he yearns to be. Barrie finds the inspiration he’s been missing when he meets the beautiful widow Sylvia and her four young sons: Jack, George, Michael and Peter.” It’s also been called the story of how Peter becomes Pan. Good gracious, how could you not want to see it?

So what got the Federer family to the show? Probably this review in Vogue: “NEW, ORIGINAL MUSICAL THEATER IS SO RARE THAT IT MAKES THIS AMBITIOUS & EXCITING PRODUCTION A TRUE MUST-SEE!” That’s basically just Anna Wintour subtly telling Federer “go see or it, or I’m sitting with the Djokovic’s.”
