Inter-house events, drill mark sports day

To focus on overall development its students, the East West Academy, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, held the sports day ‘Spardha’ recently. Ashok Patil, Subsidiary Training Centre, Border Security Force (BSF), declared the meet open by releasing pigeons. Besides inter-house track events, there were 35 drill displays by students. A safety drill display by fire services personnel demonstrated how to control fire under various circumstances.

A few events were open for parents as well as staff members.

Civic club

The civic club ‘The democratic soldiers’ of Prasiddhi School, Palace Compound, Bengaluru, was inaugurated recently. Badges were presented to members and the CMCA oath was taken.

Being active members of Democratic Soldiers, children presented a skit ‘Every Vote Counts’, which stressed the rights and duties of a responsible citizen.

Principal Beena lauded the efforts of CMCA and told students to be civic conscious.

Nature walk

To experience and explore the beauty of nature, Police Public School, Koramangala, Bengaluru, took the tiny tots of nursery section on a nature walk. Accompanied by their mentors, children visited Kaikondanahalli lake and park area. They were thrilled to see migratory birds wading through the water, looked longingly at the tilting raft, shared their snack with friends and clapped when a lone bird scooped down to snatch a sandwich. Surely, they learnt much more than what they would have learned in a classroom.

Winners

The under-17 boys shuttle badminton team of Stracey Memorial Composite PU College, St. Mark’s Road, Bengaluru, has emerged victorious at the taluk-level north range III tournament organised by the Department of Public Instruction. The team comprised Sahil M. S., Kunal Pissay, Lagan Mehta, Tejesh Raj, and Sree Ranga M. L.

Kalam’s Day

In remembrance of the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s visit to the school, students of Christ Academy, Bengaluru, celebrated Kalam’s Day by conducting various activities. During his visit to the school, the Missile Man had said that inventions and discoveries have emanated from creative minds that have been constantly working and imaging the outcome in their minds. Higher the number of creative minds, faster do we develop into an economically developed country.

Vidhana Soudha

Students of Alpine Public School, Bengaluru, visited the Vidhana Soudha and were impressed with its beautiful structure. The architecture, symbols, pillars across the building was a feast to their eyes. They walked in and around the heavily guarded building and did not forget to look up at the beautiful carvings on the ceiling. They walked past the cabins of various Ministers and learnt about the working of the Assembly.

Laurels

Students of Venkat International Public School, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, have brought laurels to the institution in various competitions held recently. Vasundhara Rakesh has bagged the first prize in a karate tournament. Poorva C. has secured the Champion II prize at the national-level abacus competition.

Patriotic fervour

A mélange of patriotic activities were held at National Public School, Yelahanka, Bengaluru, during the Independence Day celebrations. The assembly was specially dedicated to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The programme began with students of primary section presenting a song that highlighted the cultural diversity of the country. Children from the middle school staged a street play enlightening the audience about how we still have not freed ourselves from the clutches of poverty, corruption and apathy.

ID celebrations

The programmes held as part of Independence Day celebrations at PSBB Learning Leadership Academy, Laxmipura, Bengaluru, brought about a burst of nationalism among students. They presented speeches on the true spirit of independence and also a tuneful Hindi song Yeh waqt ki awaaz . There was also a dance performance by class 10 students.

Sadbhavana Diwas

To commemorate the contributions made by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, MG Railway Colony, Bengaluru, observed Sadbhavana Diwas. Principal J.A. Padmanabhan administered the oath and spoke about the role of former Prime Minister in inspiring the youth. Faculty members Dharmaraj, Sadhavi Shetty and Ritu Nair spoke.

Library day

Students of Venus International Public School, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, celebrated National Library Day and paid floral tributes to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, Father of Library Movement in India. His contribution in the field of library science was emphasised. T. Balakrishna, Chairman of the Venkat, St Ann’s and Venus Group of Institution, told students to make best use of the school library to enhance their knowledge.

Thiranga 2015

Manipal School, Mangaluru, managed by Pearson Schools, celebrated interschool Independence Day cultural fest ‘Thiranga 2015’. The theme for this year was ‘Saluting India’s Sports Heroes’ and was aimed to ignite the spirit of sports and nurture the essence of patriotism among students. About 250 students from various schools of Mangaluru city participated.

Oustathon 2015

Here is some good news for students of classes 9 and 10 studying at schools in Mysuru. They may participate in Oustathon 2015, a contest based on syllabus prescribed by the State and covers topics in science, social science and mathematics. Festival celebration

Various activities were held at Ganga International School and PU College, Nelagadaranahalli, Bengaluru, during Onam and Varamahalakshmi festival celebrations. Students enthusiastically participated in events such as pulikali, boat race, cookery, and fashion shows. The entire Ganga family, including founder-president N. Ganganarasiah, were present. Honorary secretary G. Lakshminarasimha and trustee Anupama Lakshminarasimha were the judges at a few events.

Film festival

A three-day Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival (KVIFF) was held at MKET School in Harihar, Davangere district. At the inaugural function, B.T. Achyutha, registrar, MKET, remarked that the film festival marked the beginning of environmental awareness among residents of the town. The movies screened focused on zero waste. Photojournalist H.B. Manjunath inaugurated the photo exhibition. Seminars and workshops were also held as part of the event. Botanist and environmentalist Vishwamurthy Bommaghatta spoke to the students on the topic ‘zero waste and the environment’.

Sher-e-Punjab

As part of the CCE project, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vivekanand Colony, Hubballi, conducted a programme on folk history of Punjab. Based on social science curriculum, the students of class 10 were given this project. To gather information on Sikhism, students and staff members also visited a Gurudwara. Students also presented a cultural programme that highlighted the culture and lifestyle of Punjabis. Subject teacher Asha Popale and other faculty members Rajshekar Manikyam and Sony Jadhav guided the students.
