Latif guides Karachi Blues to 53-run win

Mubashir’s all-round effort gifts victory to Bahawalpur in second match of the day

A half-century by Khalid Latif guided Karachi Blues Region to a 53-run win over DM Jamali Region, while an all-round performance by Faisal Mubashir gave Bahawalpur Region a 10-run win over FATA Region in the National T20 Cup qualifiers at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Thursday.

In the first match, DM Jamali were given a target of 173 runs as man-of-the-match Latif smashed six boundaries in his 46-ball 51. Latif was not the only scorer for the Blues as Asad Shafiq sent the ball to the boundary five times in his 24-ball 35-run knock, while Shahzeb Hasan smashed three sixes and a four to add 32 runs to the total from 23 balls.

Anwar Ali (26) and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed (16*) also contributed with important runs as Imran Khan bagged two wickets for DM Jamali. Nasir Khan, Muhammad Asim and Salman Muhammad took one wicket apiece.

In reply, DM Jamali only managed to make 119 runs with the loss of nine wickets as Najeebullah (35) and Nasir (32) top-scored for the side.

Shahzeb and Faraz Ahmed took two wickets apiece, while Anwar, Muhammad Sami and Fawad Alam grabbed a scalp each.

In the match between Bahawalpur and Fata, the former won the toss and, electing to bat, set their opponents a target of 157 runs with the loss of eight wickets.

Man-of-the-match Mubashir top-scored with an unbeaten 79-run knock off 52 balls, studded with nine fours and a six, while Kamran Hussain (21), Shahan Akram (21) and Aaqib Javed (12) contributed with significant knocks. Khushdil Shah and Muhammad Sarwar took wickets for Fata, while Asif Afridi and Raheem Baz claimed a scalp each.

In reply, Fata were bundled out 146 in 19.1 overs as Mubashir and Zahir Siddiqui dismissed three batsmen each, while Kamran Hussain and Muhammad Imran took one wicket apiece.

Rehan Afridi (35) top-scored for Fata, while Rahim (33) and Asad (21) contributed notably to the team’s total.

In the end, however, the team fell short of 10 runs as Bahawalpur ran victors at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.
