The Union Territory of Puducherry has chalked out various schemes to promote tourism in the regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam, said Puducherry Minister for Tourism P. Rajavel.

Delivering the valedictory address at the ‘Karaikal Carnival’ here on Wednesday night, Mr. Rajavel listed various schemes being implemented in Karaikal. He said the ‘Karaikal carnival’ was aimed at tapping the tourism potential of this region.

A.M.H. Nazim, MLA, suggested that the ‘Karaikal Carnival’ be organised in January, coinciding with the ‘Pongal’ holidays so that a large number of tourists and pilgrims visiting Karaikal would be attracted to it. The annual festival was organised only in January in the past.

E. Vallavan, District Collector, spoke on the objective of the festival in popularising Karaikal into an international tourism centre.

A large number of students participated in sports events and other competitions.

Earlier, Mr. Rajavel gave away prizes to winners in the competitions.
