Kanye West's VMAs acceptance speech set to the 'Seinfeld' theme is fantastic

Kanye West’s VMAs acceptance speech was incredibly powerful and very important to me, so I’m wary and protective over it and don’t want to detract from it in any way.

West excepting MTV’s highest honor was an important moment, and extremely special given the antagonistic relationship between the two. It was nearly ruined by Taylor Swift, who almost succeeded in making the whole thing about her, bringing up the incident at the 2009 VMAs and possibly lying about College Dropout being the first album she ever bought.

But then West got up on the stage – admittedly high – and delivered an unapologetic, winding, rousing, fourth-wall-breaking speech decrying award shows in general, during which Taylor Swift was unsure if she was allowed to clap or not. He then stuck the landing by saying he was running for president in 2020. (He was almost definitely joking, but the fact that so many people entertained the thought was amazing in and of itself.)

All that being said, I’m not above laughing at the ridiculousness of it all, and setting the speech to the Seinfeld theme – laugh track and all – is perfect.
