Hogenakal tragedy: Baby girl's body recovered

Oarsmen, police and fire and rescue services personnel on Thursday evening recovered the body of a 10-month-old girl who was among six of a family from Chennai who drowned in the Cauvery river at Hogenakkal when a coracle capsized on Sunday.

DHARMAPURI: Oarsmen, police and fire and rescue services personnel on Thursday evening recovered the body of a 10-month-old girl who was among six of a family from Chennai who drowned in the Cauvery river at Hogenakkal when a coracle capsized on Sunday.
The rescue team recovered the decomposed body of Subiksha, which was stuck in a gap in a rock in the river. “We have recovered the baby girl’s body and sent to it the Government Medical College Hospital in Dharmapuri for postmortem,” the Hogenakkal police said.
Chennai-based mobile phone shop owner Rajesh (30) decided to celebrate his wedding day with his wife Gomathy (28) and son Sachin (6) and Darshan (2) in Hogenakkal on Sunday. He also invited his father-in-law Krishnamoothy, mother-in-law Gowri, 55, brother-in-law Ranjith Kumar, Ranjith Kumar’s wife Gokila (30) and their child Subiksha.
The coracle they were riding on capsized when one of them attempted to take a selfie. Oarsmen rescued Rajesh, Gomathy and Sachin while the rest drowned in the river.
Police and rescue workers retrieved the bodies of Gowri and Darshan on the same day. The next day, they recovered three more bodies.
