LUCKNOW: The Samajwadi Party on Thursday withdrew itself from the Janata Parivar alliance and decided to contest Bihar assembly elections alone.
Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, the SP national general secretary, Ram Gopal Yadav said that the party felt humiliated by the RJD's stand of giving just five seats to contest in Bihar assembly elections.
"We will fight the (Bihar) election independently and with our full might," Yadav said.

Ram Gopal said that they neither met BJP chief Amit Shah nor Prime Minister Narendra Modi with regard to their decision to leave the Janata Parivar. He though maintained that SP leaders meet PM whenever there is an administrative need or for (financial assistance) for the state.
Earlier, Ram Gopal Yadav had said that contesting Bihar elections in alliance was like signing on a "death warrant".
Yadav said that party's Bihar unit will prepare a list of candidates for the upcoming elections. He added that the Janata Parivar was keen to take on Bharatiya Janata Party that has done well in a string of state polls.

Besides the Samajwadi Party, the other Janata Parivar constituents are Janata Dal-United, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Janata Dal (Secular), the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Samajwadi Janata Party (Chandra Shekhar).
All top leaders, including party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav attended the brainstorming session.
SP chief Mulayam Singh was conspicuous by his absence at the August 30 rally of anti-BJP parties in Patna.
Earlier, he did not attend an iftar party organized by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and openly opposed her party's boycott of Parliament.
Besides, he also went for an unscheduled meeting with PM Narendra Modi last week.
