Residents of Jayanagar have been using messaging platform ‘WhatsApp’ for the past few months in order to raise awareness about civic problems being faced by them.

Members of the Jayanagar Residents’ Welfare Civic and Cultural Association send pictures of civic issues to 98453 66097 through WhatsApp and that is forwarded to the authorities concerned for further action.

“We have seen fantastic response to the facility from residents and officials have also been very helpful. We forward information received through WhatsApp in the form of write-ups accompanied by pictures to the officials concerned, and then they take action,” said N. Keshava Kumar, association president.

So far, issues like water leakage, garbage dumping and other civic matters have been dealt with through the system. “Officials of BBMP, BWSSB and BMTC have been very proactive in solving problems that we bring to their notice, and so the system has become popular among residents,” Mr. Kumar added.
