Rs 28.65 crore to improve power supply in Madurai district

Power distribution is to be improved through infrastructure augmentation at a cost of Rs. 28.652 crore in Madurai district. The enhancement envisaged under the allocation from Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana include creation of new sub-stations, upgrading existing ones and replacing old meters.

Addressing a meeting to review development of power infrastructure in the district at a meeting held here on Tuesday, R. Gopalakrishnan, MP, said that eight new sub-stations would come up at a cost of Rs. 17 crore in Idayapatti, M. Kallupatti, Chekkanoorani and Mangalrevu of Usilampatti Assembly constituency; Panaiyur of Tirupparankundram constituency; Ayyankottai of Sholavandan constituency and Kottanathampatti and Tiruvadavur of Melur constituency. This would streamline power supply in Matharai, Poochipatti, Nakkalapatti, Chettiapatti, Pudupatti, Thottappanaickanur, Muthupandipatti, Malaipatti, Arivoli Nagar, Ambasamudram, Kunnathupatti, Panaiyur, Ayyanarpuram, Chinthamani, Samathuvapuram, Periyar Nagar, Kallambal, Puliyankulam, Silaiman, Keezhadi, Nagari, Ayyankottai, Tiruvalavayanallur, Thodaneri, Thenur, Sithalankudi, C. Pudur, Thanichiyam, Vairanatham, Vayalur, Sholavandan, Rayapuram, Vellanayagampatti, Uranganpatti, Kurichipatti, Nayathampatti, Andipatti, T. Krishnapuram, Paraipatti and Oppapatti.

The existing sub-stations in Saptur and Valayankulam would be upgraded at a cost of Rs. 1.8 crore to benefit Saptur, Alagapuri, Aththipatti, Anaikkaraipatti, Vandapuli, Sempatti, Pazhayur, Valayankulam, Valayapatti, Solankuruni, Nallur and Kombadi panchayats. New electronic meters would replace 13, 323 old meters at a cost of Rs. 1.13 crore.

New power lines and transformers would be installed at a cost of Rs. 25.14 crore in Sholavandan, Vadipatti, Alanganallur, Palamedu, Peraiyur, T. Kallupatti, Ezhumalai and A. Vellalapatti town panchayats, according to an official press release. Those who participated in the meeting included T. Radhakrishnan, Virudhunagar MP, R. Parthiban, Theni MP, and L. Subramanian, Madurai Collector.
