US Open: Bopanna, Federer, Murray and Wawrinka in Round 2

Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray played controversial Australian player Nick Kyrgios in the pair's first round match at Flushing Meadows. He defeated Kyrgios 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

Day 2 was quite favourable to male seeds compared to Women at the US Open. All top seeded players except Frenchman Gilles Simon advanced to the next round of the tournament.

Former Champion Roger Federer beat Argentinian Leonardo Mayer in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to take a comfortable victory. The Swiss played a fabulous game, hitting four aces under 20 minutes into the first game.

Murray won the match defeating Kyrgios winning 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. He will face France's Adrian Mannarino in the next game.

Swiss ace Stanislas Wawrinka faced Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas for the fifth time, beating him in three sets 7-5, 6-4, 7-6(6).

In women's category second-seed Simona Halep beat Newzealand's Marina Erakovic. She won the first set comfortably, with Erakovic retiring 3 games into the second set with a knee injury Halep advanced to round 2. She will face Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine in the next round.

Fourth seeded Caroline Wozniacki cruised into the next round by beating America's Jamie Loeb 6-2, 6-0.

The major upset of the day came when Sixth seeded Lucie Safarova suffered a straight-set loss to Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine.Tsurenko beat safarova 6-4, 6-1.

Swiss seed Bacsinszky also lost her first round match to Czech Barbora Strycova, who defeated her 7-5, 6-0.

In men's doubles category India's Rohan Bopanna and Romania's Florin Mergea beat Austin Krajicek and Nicholas Monroe of United states 6-3,6-4 to progress to the second round.
