Jaipur girl all set to tickle funny bone
She’s the new kid on the block from Jaipur who will soon be seen on a new TV show, titled Comedy Superstar. Mishkka Shekhawat was in Jaipur on Tuesday to promote the show, and was introduced by Shekhar Suman, who will be one of the judges along with Sushmita Sen and Sonu Sood.
A Maharani College dropout, Mishkka quit her studies to become a radio jockey. Last seen in a cameo in Kangana Ranaut-starrer Revolver Rani, she is now looking at doing stand-up comedy on screen.
She says, “I always wanted to be an entertainer in any form, be it acting or writing. So, I quit studies in my second year only, and started working as a radio jockey in Jaipur, which later took me to Ahmedabad and then, to Dubai. After that, I moved base to Mumbai, so that I could do something else. One day, I got to know about this show and decided to go for the audition. What I liked the most was that they were looking for fresh talent. As luck would have it, I got selected for the show.”
Mishkka’s forte lies in creating humor through her observations of people and their eccentricities. Her knowledge of various languages helps her add variety to her art of making people laugh. “I know Rajasthani, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati and a bit of Arabic, that has always proved to be an added advantage for me. I use various dialects to entertain people as it breaks monotony too. Also, that rustic element of Rajasthan is the cherry on the cake,” she says.
We decided to quiz Shekhar Suman on the vulgar humour taking centrestage in many comedy shows, and he said, “There are no guidelines as such, but I believe self-censorship is the only restriction that we need. But hitting below the belt to make people laugh is no humour.”
