Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a subsidiary of Tata Motors, has launched its premium Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) — the new Discovery Sport — in India at a starting price of Rs.46.1 lakh (ex-showroom, pre-octroi in Mumbai) with an objective to double its market share in India and to provide Indian luxury car lovers a capable and versatile all terrain vehicle.

New Discovery Sport, the latest member of the Discovery family of SUVs to be introduced in India, is manufactured locally at Pune and comes in five to seven seating configuration, the first of its kind luxury SUV to be sold in India. Before the launch, over 300 units have been booked by customers across India and JLR plans to sell over 1,000 vehicles in the coming months.

“We would like to thank many passionate and spirited Land Rover fans and customers who have already responded by placing their advance orders for this new versatile SUV. The Discovery Sport, an exceptional combination of technology, design, off-road and on-road capability, charts a new territory which will be tough for its German peers to enter into,” said Rohit Suri, President, Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd.

The vehicle is equipped with 2.2L four cylinder turbocharged diesel engines, available in 140 kW SD$ and 110 kW TD4 derivatives. The new Discovery Sport has been launched in four models and the top end model costs Rs.60.70 lakhs for the five-seater and Rs.62.18 lakh for the seven-seater (ex-show room, pre-octroi in Mumbai) variant.
