Bartell Drugs has announced that Frank Segrave, President and CEO of Silvergate Pharmaceuticals and former Vice President of Pharmacy at Wall-Mart, has joined the Bartell Drugs board of directors. He replaces Brian Unmacht, who was named Bartell Drugs’ President and CEO earlier this year.

Segrave brings 31 years of experience in retail, merchandising, distribution, sales, managed care and marketing to Bartell Drugs. He founded Greenwood Village, Colo.-based Silvergate Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company focusing on pediatric medications, in September 2010.

Before starting Silvergate, Segrave spent 19 years at Walmart, overseeing the pharmacy division of Walmart Stores Inc. And prior to joining Walmart, he served as president of global generics and executive vice president of pharmaceutical sourcing at Cardinal Health Inc., with responsibility for all pharmaceutical purchasing.

Segrave also has received numerous industry awards and recognition, including the Sam M. Walton Entrepreneurial Hero Award and being named as an “Executive Who Made a Difference” by Mass Market Retailers, the sister publication of Chain Drug Review.

Bartell Drugs, which marked its 125th anniversary this year, noted that it remains family-owned, with George Bartell continuing to serve as chairman and his sister Jean Bartell Barber as vice chairman and treasurer.

“Frank has wide-ranging experience and stature within our industry, and both Jean and I are very excited about the perspectives he’ll bring to the board as we plan for future growth and success,” George Bartell said in a statement.

Bartell Drugs operates 64 drug stores in Washington’s King, Snohomish and Pierce counties.
