The excitement that greeted the recently opened nominations for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the country seems to be growing by the day, as a son of Madam Araba Tagoe, the Western regional women's organiser of the party, Thomas Hughes Amissah, on Friday picked nomination forms to contest for the upcoming primaries in the Cape Coast South Constituency of the Central Region.

The 36-year-old banker stormed the party office at 4:30 pm to pick his nomination form to contest Mr Kweku Rickett Hagan, the Deputy Minister of Trade, in the upcoming primaries of the NDC.

Presenting the forms to him, the constituency secretary of the party, Theodore Yankah, commended him for his courage in coming forward to contest the seat.

Mr Yankah charged the aspiring candidate to run his campaign devoid of insult to enable any contestant who would lose in the primaries to campaign massively for anybody who would get the nod.

Mr Amissah in an interview with DAILY GUIDE said the people whose mandate he was seeking deserve much better representation, and need an advocate who represents the interest of the entire community.

He noted that being a footballer, he would establish a soccer academy in the area when given the nod to enable the area to nurture the talents of people in football.

'I will position the constituency well by helping the youth get employable skills, rebrand the constituency as a proper tourist site, helping the youth to venture into acquire culture as well as to give scholarships to needy and brilliant people in the area, since educational standards in the area had been falling due to high poverty level,' he added.

'I will also boost English, Mathematics, Science and Information Communication Technology (ICT) among the youth in the area,' Mr Amissah said.

He stated that he had been an active card-bearing member and is an executive member of the party in the constituency.

Mr Amissah, a native of Cape Coast, had his primary education at Presbyterian School in Cape Coast and Eton International School in Accra and continued his secondary education at Adisadel College in Cape Coast.

He gained admission to the Cape Coast Polytechnic for his HND programme in accountancy and then proceeded to Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), now University of Professional Studies, to charter in Management Accountancy.

Currently holding MBA in Finance from the GIMPA, Mr Amissah is a staff of Merchant Bank and had worked with GHACEM, Bank of Ghana and other organisations in the country.
