VARANASI: Death of a Madarsa student and sharp deterioration of health condition of of many others after taking meal in Mau district put the health officials and police personnel on their toes on Wednesday. While the body of the boy was sent to his native place in Jharkhand, the samples of water were collected by health officials for examination.
According to reports, one Mohammed Tauwab Ansari (17), a student of Madarsa Darul Hadish in Nayapura locality under Kotwali police station area of Mau town, died during the course of treatment at a private hospital on Wednesday.
He along with 11 other students had fallen ill after taking dinner, and they were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The chief medical officer Dr Nandlal Yadav went to the madarsa and hospital after getting information to stock of the situation. The CMO told TOI over phone that 12 students fell ill three days back after taking meal. The madarsa management preferred to admit them to a private hospital for treatment, where Tauwab died on Wednesday. According to CMO, the condition of 11 students was improving and one of them was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.
“Since the incident took place three days back, no food sample could be collected. But, we have taken the samples of water supplied through municipality for examination,” said the CMO adding that meal was served to 775 students residing in two hostels of the madarsa. According to him, one hostel accommodates 700 students, while another hostel has 75 students. The ailing students belong to the group of 75 students. He said that according to madarsa management same food was served to all students.
The Kotwali police inspector Kunwar Bahadur Singh said that the deceased belonged to Sahebganj district in Jharkhand. The family members were informed about the incident, and the body was sent to his native place. The madarsa management could not be contacted in this regard.
