The Strictly Come Dancing judges have told Newsbeat they're not worried about claims this year's celebrity line-up is the weakest to date.

Singer Peter Andre, chef Ainsley Harriott and EastEnders actress Kelly Bright are among those taking part.

Speaking at Tuesday's launch, judge Bruno Tonioli said: "People love the show. It's not just about celebrities.

"I don't understand why people have to be so negative for the sake of it. Just embrace it."

"This is amazing," he told Newsbeat. "I'm from a boxing world. I am used to sweaty gyms and bloody noses but I can't wait to get started.

"My footwork is OK being a boxer but Peter Andre, he can shake, he can move.

"The first person to take their top off will be Iwan Thomas. Give him £5, he'll probably do it now."

Kirsty Gallacher

Kirsty got her big break in 1998 when she started presenting on Sky Sports News.

The daughter of golfer Bernard Gallacher, the 39-year-old has two children with ex-husband Paul Sampson.

"Caroline Flack [who won Strictly last year] is a friend of mine and she said the whole experience is an adventure and life-changing.

"Gabby and Kenny Logan said the same and said it's such a great journey, you have got to be a part of it and you will love it."

Jay McGuiness

Jay, 25, joined The Wanted in 2009.

The group said they were taking a break at the beginning of 2014, but would work together again.

"I think my biggest challenge will be smiling, not because I'm not happy, but because I'm not naturally a smiley person so when it comes to one of the more enthusiastic dances I think I'm going to really struggle to bring that character out."

Kellie Bright

Kellie, 39, plays Linda Carter on EastEnders and was also Julie in Ali G's Indahouse.

"My biggest challenge is going to be all the other things going on in my life outside of Strictly - I have a family, I have a full on job at EastEnders that can be long hours and I'm doing a huge renovation to our house so I will be micro-managing all of them.

"I talked to Emma Bunton about taking part in Strictly because she's a really good friend of mine.

"She said it was amazing and one of the best things she's ever done."

Iwan Thomas

Iwan won seven gold medals during his athletics career, taking silver in the 4x400m at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

After retiring from the sport the 41-year-old appeared on a number of TV shows, including Through The Keyhole, The Wright Stuff, Celebrity MasterChef and now reports for the One Show.

"I've always watched Strictly, but I honestly can't dance.

"I'm one of those blokes who watches the show and thinks fair play to anyone that does it.

"I hate being rubbish at something so I think this is the place to learn."

Anita Rani

A former BBC Asian Network presenter, Anita has also presented shows including Rogue Restaurants, Watchdog, Countryfile and The One Show.

The 37-year-old said: "I always want to do the best I can and be the best I can be in whatever I put my mind to.

"I'm certainly not competitive with the other people.

"I just want to go for it and learn and see how far I can get in the competition."

Jeremy Vine

Jeremy Vine presents a radio show on BBC Radio 2.

He's also well known for presenting Points of View on BBC One and for his part in the BBC's general election coverage.

"I turned 50 this year and although I'm not a natural dancer, I realised this is the time to do stuff you don't naturally want to do.

"I would like to get to at least one tense moment in the competition but I am so polite, I will just wave the others past me on their way to the trophy and later think to myself, I wanted that."

Carol Kirkwood

One of the BBC's most famous weather presenters, Carol is also one of the faces of breakfast telly.

The 53-year-old started her career in 1993 and has won the Tric Award for six times her TV forecasts.

"I have no dance skills whatsoever. I've done some Scottish country dancing before which sounds way more glamorous than it is, but it's only really been at weddings so as for formal dance training, I have none whatsoever."

Ainsley Harriott

Ainsley, 58, is one of the most famous TV chefs after the success of his long-running shows Can't Cook, Won't Cook and Ready Steady Cook.

He's published 13 cookbooks and he has two children with former costume designer Clare Fellows.

"I certainly love a boogie and once the music starts I'm usually one of the first out there on the dance floor.

"Although I haven't had any formal dance training and something tells me I'm really going to notice the difference."

Helen George

Helen is best known for playing Trixie Franklin in the BBC series Call The Midwife.

She's also appeared in The Three Musketeers, Doctors and Hotel Babylon.

"I did ballet when I was younger, but I think that could be a bit of a hindrance as it is so different from all of the ballroom and Latin dances that I will have to do on Strictly.

"I'm hoping I will get my confidence with dancing back during Strictly."

Daniel O'Donnell

Daniel is a 53-year-old singer from Ireland who had a hit with Give A Little Love in 1998. The track made it to number seven.

He's been the subject of several high-profile parodies, including one from former Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Chris Moyles.

He was awarded an honorary MBE for services to the music industry and charity in 2002.

"When I dance on stage during my shows, I am never on the same spot two nights in a row so I obviously have to be a little bit more choreographed for Strictly and remember to be at the right place at the right time."

Katie Derham

And finally Katie, who started her journalism career as a researcher on Radio 4's Moneybox in 1995.

The 45-year-old joined ITN from 1998 to 2010 where she presented the ITV News at 6.30 and the ITV News at Ten.

Since 2010 she's been back working at the BBC on a number of different projects including the Proms and as a presenter on Radio 3.

"I'm hoping that I'll be in such good hands that it will all just happen.

"I'm not an actress and it's not something I've been trained to do. I'm really up for it and I hope I'll find a way of making it work for me."
