Johannesburg - Electronics giant Samsung is selling its virtual reality headset in South Africa at a recommended retail price of R3 499.
On Tuesday, Samsung South Africa announced the launch of its Gear VR Innovator Edition in the country.
The headset - which has technology powered by virtual reality firm Oculus - can be attached to Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones. The headset then works with the smartphones’ screens to provide for a virtual reality experience.
The Gear VR Innovator Edition was also on show at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress in March this year and it is now available in South Africa at a recommended price of R3 499, according to Samsung SA.
“Our latest innovation, the Gear VR Innovator Edition, is designed for what matters to our consumers, and reflects Samsung’s unique mobile technology that will shape the future of the wearable market,” said Craige Fleischer, director of integrated mobility at Samsung Electronics South Africa.
Samsung also has content geared for the virtual reality headset such as 'walking alongside dinosaurs' with Jurassic World: Apatosaurus and watching the Cirque du Soleil, Kurios performance.
Content can also be downloaded from the Oculus store, said Samsung.
The company further said that the headset is available at selected its Experience stores, leading retailers and local operators.
