CHENNAI: Ten days after granting conditional anticipatory bail to Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president EVKS Elangovan and asking him to stay in Madurai for 15 days, the Madras high court relaxed the conditions on Wednesday.
Justice S Vaidyanathan relaxed the conditions for Elangovan and his co-accused G Narayanan, after senior counsel V Prakash urged the court not to treat him on a par with regular bail seekers.

When the judge proposed to make Elangovan sign before the Teynampet police station for the rest of the period, the counsel said Elangovan was leader of a national party and that he had several political exigencies to attend to. He prayed that the conditions be dispensed with.
Acceding to the request, Justice Vaidyanathan then fully relaxed the conditions, paving the way for the return of Elangovan from Madurai to Chennai.
A sacked employee of the TNCC Trust, Valarmathi, had lodged a criminal intimidation complaint against Elangovan and Narayanan, and Teynampet police registered an FIR a fortnight ago.
While granting him anticipatory bail, Vaidyanathan had asked the TNCC president and Narayanan to stay in Madurai for 15 days and sign before Thallakulam police at 10.30am daily. Even a complaint by Elangovan that he was being targeted by AIADMK cadres and that eggs and stones were hurled at his vehicle when he was preparing to go to the police station had not move the court, which refused to relax the conditions.
However, after about 10 days, the court has now relaxed the conditions.
