Most comedies are made with the tag 'leave your brain behind'. So, do you enjoy doing l such kind of films?
John: I like my 'Madras Cafes' and I love doing such mindless comedies as well. I lived the character that I played in Madras Cafe for a long time. It was an intense film, which had a lasting impact on me. But at the same time, I also enjoy doing films which are light hearted as they have a different kind of impact on you as an actor. You can't be doing similar films all the time.
Shruti: I think it all depends on your mood. While I love sincere and serious cinema, there are days when I like watching senseless comedies also. You can't watch serious films all the time. As humans you would want to explore various moods and I think that's what happens to us as actors when we do different films. But many filmmakers are against such 'leave your brain behind' kind of films.
Anil: To each his own. You will always find people who wouldn't like any particular kind of cinema. But at the end of the day , you are entertaining the audience, and it's depends on how you want to do it.

How does it affect you as an actor when a movie doesn't do well at the box office? Do you think of the business part of films before you zero in on any film?
Anil: We all have to think of the business aspect of the films. I would be really inhu man if I don't think about the director and the producer and whether they make money or not. It is at the end of the day business, and every one puts in a lot of effort. So it is only fair to think that a movie should do well and earn money . And there is nothing wrong in it.Also for the consumers, when a person goes to watch a film, he should be enter tained. The medium of enter tainment could be any , so you have to be sure of the intent you are doing a film with. You would be clear about it.
But does it take long to get over a film which has failed at the BO?
Anil: Well, now that I have been in the industry for these many years, it has eased out. You move on and start thinking about the next film. But you should learn from your mistakes from all your previous films and make sure that you don't repeat the same mistakes as you made in your earlier films. If you do that you can sustain for a longer time.
Being a part of a comedy could be difficult as people say it is the most difficult thing to do?
John: I would agree to that.Making people laugh could be really difficult, but when you have co-actors who are great with their craft, it becomes that much easier for you to act.And if writers do their job well, then it becomes that much easier for the actors to 1 pull off a scene. But there is a very thin line between a comedy being funny and it being crass. So do you think about it when you choose .

a comedy film?
Shruti: A comedy is suptposed to make people laugh. And honestly , there are days . when a classy comedy will make you laugh and then t there will be days when crass is what you would like. So you can't decide that if I like a certain kind of comedy then everyone would like that kinds only. You have to provide everything to the audience.Similarly , there will be people in the audience who will enjoy the crass jokes just as there will be people who will like classy comedy . So there is no certain kind that I think of before signing a film. I also watch movies, and I like a mix of it all.
So what do you look for in a script before finalizing a film?
Shruti: The primary factor is the character for me. If the character is strong then I go ahead with the film. But also since I am balancing films in three different languages, I see to it that I don't keep repeating the same thing as I myself will get bored.
