'House of Cards' season 4 plot news: Neve Campbell as rival

With the release of "House of Cards" season 4 still a few months away, details of the plot were revealed online.

According to Los Angeles Times, there were speculations that the character of Michael Kelly, Doug Stamper, will be seeing his death for the upcoming season. Kelly himself addressed the rumor stating that he hoped to stay in the series. He said, "I don't know, man, I don't want him to. This is the greatest job I've ever had, Doug Stamper is the greatest gift I have ever been given as an actor. I love playing him, I love going to work every day, here we are in season 4 and I love going to work just as much as I did first day of season 1 and that says a lot."

As for Neve Campbell, it was suspected that she will become Frank's rival in season 4. It was hinted that the upcoming season will introduce a new and younger power couple. The new addition is expected to shake Claire, played by Robin Write, and Frank off of their powerful position.

With that, the upcoming season will also dwell on the struggling marriage of Claire and Frank. However, there are fans hoping that the new couple will bring the two back together and work to maintain their position.

Showrunner Beau Willimon did talk about their plans for the series during an interview with E! Online. He explained that they took several risks in the previous season because they wanted to present a more emotional story. He said, "We wanted a little less political intrigue and a little more of the emotional flux. We wanted to tell the story of the marriage."

He expressed his hope of seeing the risks from the previous season turn out for the better for the upcoming season. However, he also addressed the negative criticism surrounding the previous season, and how fans did not like seeing the Underwoods fall apart. He shared that the decision for this plot was to show how the Underwoods were humans, as well.

House of Cards season 4 is expected to return in 2016.
