Little Too Soon
Bihar cadre IAS officer Sudhir Kumar, currently Member (PPP) at National Highways Authority of India, could soon be prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre. Sources in the Roads Ministry say Kumar, who was OSD during Lalu Prasad’s term at the Ministry of Railways — and was credited with much of the Railways’ turnaround during Lalu’s regime — was learnt to be making a strong push for the post of chairman, NHAI. Now, he is being sent back as a decision has been taken on the new chief, Raghav Chandra.

Preventive Measures
Worried about the “increasing” incidents of student “unrest and agitation” in its schools, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has issued a circular suggesting ways to prevent such incidents. NVS has said such incidents get highlighted in the media because the “cases are not handled properly”. It has also said there should be grievance/suggestion boxes in schools, and meetings between house captains, class monitors, class teachers, staff and various other committees should be held regularly to address grievances of students.

Zeroing In
The process of selecting a new director for NCERT may soon come to an end. The search/selection committee set up for the purpose held its final meeting in Bangalore on August 24, during which 10 shortlisted candidates were called. Of the nine that turned up, five are NCERT officials and four are academicians from the outside. The committee has narrowed down on three names, which have been sent to the HRD Ministry. The position has been lying vacant since October last year, when director Parvin Sinclair resigned midway through her tenure.
