A rickshaw driver who sexually assaulted a young clubber after offering her a free ride home from a Mayfair club is facing jail.

Mohammed Hossain, 35, spotted the victim as she left the club in tears at 1am on 7 March after an argument with a friend.

The Bangladeshi lured the 21-year-old into his rickshaw with the offer of a free ride home on the condition that she would chat to him for a while.

Hossain parked the rickshaw in a secluded area on Streatham Street near the British Museum and clambered into the back seat with the woman.

He then offered her alcohol and made sexual advances towards her.

When the woman, who cannot be named, told him she had a boyfriend, he told her: "Girls cheat on their boyfriends".

Trouble: Hossain, an asylum seeker, was found guilty by a jury at Blackfriars Court

When the victim reached for her bag Hossain put his hands on her shoulders and tried to hold her down.

As she struggled to get free Hossain put his hand under her skirt and ran it up her legs towards her underwear.

The woman was seen stumbling out of the rickshaw and running away by two nearby police officers who saw she was visibly upset.

She told them what had happened as Hossain started to pedal off in his rickshaw before he was caught and detained.

The asylum seeker, who is currently appealing a failed application, made no comment during the subsequent police interview.

He claimed in court that he had wanted to chat with the woman to improve his English, and his hand slipped up her skirt as he stood up in the back of the rickshaw to try to find some cigarettes.

But the jury at Blackfriars Crown Court found him guilty of sexual assault after deliberating for three hours.

Hossain, from Plaistow, was bailed ahead of sentence on 20 October.
