President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau told Team Fiji to the Commonwealth Youth Games yesterday to perform to the best of their ability.

He made the comment when Team Fiji presented their itatau (traditional farewell) at Government House in Suva yesterday.

They leave on Friday for Samoa for the Vth Commonwealth Youth Games.

Addressing Team Fiji, Ratu Epeli said, “Many of you have been here before and heard me talk on what Fiji expects of you, what I expect of you and what you expect of yourself”.

“The majority of you are beginning your international careers in sports, the door is wide open, but whether you begin your career now or you are an old person, everything is based on the training.

“The competition will be stiff. There are no walkovers, no easy way out; you have got to perform to the best of your ability to be successful.” Ratu Epeli reminded the athletes that they needed to have faith in themselves.

“Whatever you do, enjoy yourself. I have faith in you, your parents, your bubus, your tutus all have faith in you and I hope you have faith in yourself. Have faith in yourself to be successful,” he said.

The Commonwealth Youth Games will start on Saturday and ends on September 5-11.
