For Gayatri, a Class X student, recollecting mathematical formulas is the most difficult task as she often tends to forget them. With the introduction of smart classes in her school, she has overcome this challenge gradually.

Similarly, for another student Y. Srinivas, getting the geometrical diagrams right is the biggest achievement. However, the pictorial representation used in audio and video clippings made his life easier. At K.D.P.M. High School, a number of students come forward to share their experiences on how the smart classroom concept, introduced recently, leave a positive impact on them and help them absorb every bit of information effectively.

Launched by Grameena Vidya, a wing of Centre for Training Research and Development that caters to the digital education needs with ‘Adopt a school’ concept along with Varun Motors, the audio-visual elements aim at helping students understand the subject in a better manner. “The focus is to improve the standard of education and ease the learning-teaching process for students and teachers. The software contains curriculum-based multimedia content and assessments to equip students with digital education,” says S. Sam Kumar, director of Grameena Vidya.

So far, Grameena Vidya introduced five e-Classrooms in government schools across Visakhapatnam. Those who are used to the traditional teaching method of chalk-board feel that the digital transformation is a welcome move. “The smart classes help in demonstrating lab experiments effectively. Unlike earlier days, students are more participative and look forward to virtual classes. Moreover, the properties of chemical content can be viewed clearly in the digital presentation,” reasons K. Sanyasi Rao, physical science and maths teacher of the school.

Except languages, the e-Classroom software is designed for all subjects and embedded into school curriculum from Classes VI to X. “Along with the audio-visual content, detailed notes will be given to students to help them follow the new learning technique. At present, smart classes are held weekly once for those studying from Grade VI to X”, explains P. Kameswari, Principal of the school.
