2015 Silverstone Moto2 Results
Johann Zarco had a slow start to the 2015 Moto2 Championship when he finished eighth at the opening round in Qatar. But from round two at Circuit of the Americas and on, the 25-year-old Frenchman has shown nothing but talent, earning podiums at every race.
His latest arrived at a wet-then-drying Silverstone Circuit for round 12 of 2015 Moto2 – the British Grand Prix. The 2015 Silverstone Moto2 podium was also a win – the AJO Motorsport’s fifth of the year.
Zarco earned the win after riding smartly at Silverstone, the longest circuit on the Moto2 schedule at 3.66 miles. The race was declared wet, and every rider was on rain tires. But towards the end of the 18-lap race, a dry line appeared. Zarco preserved his tires, eventually taking the win by 3.360 seconds ahead of Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins.
Earning the final podium spot was the reigning Moto2 Champion, EG 0,0 Marc VDS Kalex’s Tito Rabat, who finished 5.527 seconds back. With his win, Zarco has increased his lead in the Moto2 point standings to 249 points, 85 ahead of Rins and 88 ahead of Rabat.
2015 Silverstone Moto2 Results – Recap
Zarco began from third on the grid behind Rins and poleman Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing). Lowes fell back, and a battle began between Rabat, Rins and Zarco. During the second lap, Zarco and Rabat nearly touched, pushing Zarco back to fifth. By lap seven, he fought his way back to the front and took the lead from Rabat.
From there Zarco opened up a gap, earning his sixth GP-career victory (5X Moto2, 1X 125cc). Moto2 rookie Rins fought hard with Rabat and the other Marc VDS rider, Alex Marquez, to earn second.
Rabat had the early lead, but his rain tires began deteriorating quickly from running on the drying line. Regardless, he fought hard for the final podium position, his fifth of the season. Rabat finishing ahead of Marquez – the brother of MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez who crashed out of 2015 Silverstone MotoGP – and AGR Team’s Jonas Folger.
Lowes, who slipped back to eighth after a horrible start from pole, redeemed himself to earn sixth before a home crowd. Seventh went to QMMF Racing’s Anthony West, who fought from 22nd to seventh. Rounding out the top 10 were Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), Thomas Luthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten), and Ricard Cardus (JP Moto Malaysia).
Crashing out during 2015 Silverstone Moto 2 were wildcard Bradley Ray (FAB-Racing), Forward Racing duo Lorenzo Baldassari and Simone Corsi, and Thitipong Warokorn (APH PTT The Pizza SAG).
The 2015 Moto2 Championship breaks for two weeks before heading to Misano for the San Marino Grand Prix.
