Kalburgi killing: Siddaramaiah promises quick action

On Sunday, Dr. Kalburgi (78), retired vice-chancellor of the Kannada University, was gunned down at his residence in Dharwad allegedly by miscreants for his alleged remarks on Hindu culture and practices. However, no group or individuals have claimed responsibility for his death.

Karnataka CID to probe Kalburgi's murder: Top 10 developments
As many as 8 districts in North Karnataka observed a total bundh on Monday to condemn the killing. His body is being cremated in Dharwad. Leaders from all political parties and litterateurs paid their last respects in the presence of heavy police security.

Preliminary investigation suggested that professionals were involved in the crime. The autopsy report too suggested that bullets were fired from sophisticated revolver and not any country-made pistol.
