X Factor reignites Russell Kane and Grimmy confusion

Russell Kane's Twitter feed apparently "lit up like a tree" this weekend because X Factor's back on television.

"I know we look alike but that's not me, that's Nick Grimshaw," Russell points out, referring to Grimmy's new judging gig.

"I'm sure Grimmy is horrified to be associated with a vaguely recognisable B-list comedian.

"For me it's great, I just wander into the club," Russell jokes.

"I don't actually personally run my Twitter anymore, my management does, as I got Twitter-addicted so I'm having six months detox.

"Apparently my Twitter lit up like a tree [on Saturday] going, 'You look great, how's Rita Ora?'"

The facial similarities between Kane and Grimshaw have been pointed out before.

Russell's wife Lindsey thinks her husband is better looking than the host of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show though.

"I'm not, obviously," says Russell. "Nick, you are so beautiful."

Chatting to Newsbeat at the Reading Festival, where he's been performing in the comedy tent, Russell says that "people laugh when I do the Grimmy joke".

"But I've just come back from Ibiza," he adds, "and a couple of people actually got quite annoyed when I said I wasn't him.

"They think - sorry Nick - I am him, being up myself and not wanting to socialise.

"People end up Googling Grimmy and putting it next to my head and going, 'Tell me that's not you'."

It's not. Obviously.

But Russell has a few thoughts on X Factor.

"Don't be a snob about it" is his main point.

"The rule with X Factor is pretend to dislike it whilst watch all of it.

"I got in last night, knackered from my gig, at 1am, knowing I needed to get sleep for Reading and I still watched half of the first episode of X Factor.

"Enjoy it. It's a rush of entertainment, get into it or don't watch it at all," says Russell.

"If you're intellectually confident you should be able to watch stuff like that no problem."
