I would like to do one film at a time: Rammy
Cinematographer Rammy aka Ramesh Kumar is in the midst of shooting one of the most challenging projects in his career. The film in question is ace director Ram Gopal Varmas Killing Veerappan, a docu-drama thriller, based on Operation Cocoon that led to the killing of forest brigand Veerappan. It is being made in Hindi and Kannada with the Kannada Superstar Shivarajkumar in the lead.
So, how different is this film from AMR Rameshs Vana Yuddham, which was also based on the life of Veerappan? I have not seen Vana Yuddham. But I can say that this film delves only into the Operation Cocoon unlike Vana Yuddham, which also revolved around his life. We have tried to cover every aspect of the operation, including the media reports and stories told by the police. We have wrapped up 80 per cent of the film, says the cameraman, who was in the city recently for a workshop at Dr GR Damodaran College of Science.
Rammy says that shooting for the film was an uphill task and was one of the most challenging experiences. We had to shoot under extremely demanding weather conditions of Yellapur, Hubli, that too at an estimated time. The terrains in the forest were sloppy and we had to use ropes to get to the top. Since it was a dense forest, lights would play hide and seek most of the times. It would be so dark even at 10.30 am in the morning. And when it rains there, it just pours. So, if we had shot a particular scene in rain at a time, we would have to wait for similar conditions to can the next scene for continuity. But the limited time didnt give us that luxury. We had to shoot extremely fast, that too at a limited time. So, we had to create artificial rains and light to wrap up the scene on time.
Interestingly Rammy had teamed up RGV for yet another film titled Secret. Its a psychological thriller and a bilingual in Telugu (Mogai Puvvu) and Hindi (Secret). The film stars Sachiin Joshi, Meera Chopra and Kainaat Arora. The film is expected to hit screens in two months time. When asked how the back-to-back association with RGV happened, Rammy replies, RGVs assistant and I had worked together and it was he who said that the ace director was looking for a cameraman. I was soon on board. I enjoyed the experience with the director.
When quizzed if Rammy was focussing on Bollywood since he hasnt signed any Tamil film after his maiden project, pat comes the reply. After Yaamirukka Bayamey, I was flooded with offers in the horror comedy genre. But I didnt want to get typecast. I am in talks for another film in Tamil. But before I zero in on a project, I want to to finish my pending projects as I would like to do one film at a time.
