Victor Valdes transfer saga is set for a new turnaround after Besiktas have surprisingly decided to back out the agreement to sign the Manchester United keeper. The tumultuous spell of the Spaniard at Manchester United looked set to come to an end on Saturday, after Mundo Deportivo reported the Spanish keeper was expected to travel to Turkey on Sunday, 30 August, to undergo a medical ahead of his imminent move to Besiktas.

The Spanish newspaper claimed that keeper was going to travel to Turkey on Sunday to undergo the medical before signing a two-seasons-deal with his new club. But the same publication has now reported a u-turn in the saga after claiming Besiktas have backed out the agreement with the keeper at the very last minute.

Valdes, 33, signed a 18 month contract at Old Trafford last January after his former Barcelona manager Louis van Gaal handed him the chance to complete his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury at United's training ground. But earlier this summer the Dutch boss urged him to find a new team, after leaving the player out of his pre-season squad as the player had refused to play for the Red Devils' under-21 side.

"Valdes is not selected [for the tour] because he doesn't follow my philosophy. The philosophy is how you play football and how you maintain your match rhythm," Van Gaal then said as quoted by Goal. "He refused last year to play in the second team.

"There are a lot of other aspects in the philosophy how you have to play like a goalkeeper at Manchester United. When you are not willing [to apply] the principles of that philosophy there is only one way, and that is out."

The Spanish keeper has since seen the opening matches of the new season from the stands, despite van Gaal also decided to drop his compatriot David De Gea amid the speculations linking him with a move to Real Madrid. Mundo Deportivo reported on Saturday that Valdes was finally expected to end his nightmare at Old Trafford with a move to Besiktas after United allow his departure as a free-agent.
