To revive the old and forgotten art of weaving from one of the world's most ancient cities, and to give it the platform that it deserves, designer Anita Dongre created, produced and released an evocative documentary at the Lakmé Fashion Week, Winter/Festive 2015 in collaboration with craft patron Dia Mirza. Banaras: A Woven Story is a seven-minute documentary that echoes the plight and current state of weavers who've spent decades to keep the crafts history going, despite difficulties in the mounting face of modernity and supposedly more attractive choices for young generations.
In line with Anita Dongre's philosophy of reviving, sustaining and empowering art and arti sans, the film reflects the urgent need for action and urges people to keep India's craft wheel moving.

Anita also showed her work with these artisans and on display were handwoven lehengas in breathtaking Banarasi weaves, exquisite Banaras brocades in gold and silver amidst lehengas in hues of reds and peaches with signature flamingo motifs.
