RTE admissions: Officials recommend de-recognition of 12 Pune schools

Dhananjay Pardeshi, deputy education officer, PMC said that the list of schools includes Bal Shikshan Mandir, Delhi Public School, Vikhe Patil Memorial School, New India School, two schools of Shikshan Prasarak Mandali, Huzurpaga School, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan at Shivaji Nagar and BVB’s Paranjape School, Kothrud’s City International School and Abhinav Vidyalaya.

Even as the last day for completing Round I of RTE quota admissions was expected to be Friday, chaos ensued as fresh complaints kept pouring in against schools refusing the allotted admissions. The RTE cell at PMC education board received as many as 139 complaints in a day for Pune city alone on Friday, while many parents along with AAP party workers accompanied by Pune Municipal Corporation officials reached Vishrambaug police station where a police complaint was lodged against three city schools for refusing RTE quota admissions.

At Vishrambaug police station, PMC assistant administrative officer, Shilpkala Randhave, lodged the FIR against three city schools namely Shikshan Prasarak Mandali’s two schools ie S P M English Medium Primary School at Sadashiv Peth, SPM Public School and MGE Society’s Huzurpaga Girls English Medium School for refusing to give admissions to 65 students in Class I despite recent High Court orders.

The case has been registered under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code which pertains to showing disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servants, said senior police inspector H V Bhat.
