Palin Drone: Sarah Defends Curt Schilling From ‘Liberal’ ESPN
Earlier this week, ESPN suspended former MLB star Curt Schilling from its coverage of the Little League World Series, after he tweeted a meme that compared Muslims to Nazis.
In a statement, the network called the tweet – which read, “It’s said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How’d that go?” (and featured an addendum from Schill himself: “The math is staggering when you get to true #s”) – “completely unacceptable,” and took him off TV “pending further consideration.” He also won’t call this week’s ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast.
At least publicly, Schilling took his suspension in stride, tweeting, “Bad choices have bad consequences and this was a bad decision in every way on my part.” And sure, Schilling does have a history of making bad decisions on Twitter, but since this is 2015, his measured reaction was met with some fairly predictable responses, and it should probably come as no surprise that Sarah Palin has entered the fray, coming to Schilling’s defense and ripping ESPN and its “intolerant PC police.”
“Was he wrong? No!” Palin wrote on her Facebook page. “The difference between Hitler’s army and the genocidal maniacs of ISIS is that the jihadists don’t have as much power…yet.
“By denying the accuracy of Schilling’s tweet, ESPN shows its weakness as it buys into the propaganda of ISIS and other terror organizations, helping mislead the public about the very real threat of terrorism,” she continued. “It shows once again that ESPN would rather concentrate on liberal global politics instead of report well on our beloved sports.”
Well, it’s either ISIS or the SEC. Palin also pointed out that ESPN has featured “crude, rude bile…for years now,” including a 2011 interview with Mike Tyson broadcast on an ESPN Radio affiliate in Las Vegas, during which the boxer made several graphic remarks about her. She closed by calling the network “awful” and advised them to “stick to sports.”
Fair enough. Though, as Mediaite points out, couldn’t the same also be said for Schilling?
