The Robins controlled possession for much of the first half, but the Blades went closest when Conor Sammon fired against the bar from eight yards out.
Collins headed a deflected corner past Lawrence Vigoroux to open the scoring.
The advantage was doubled when Martyn Woolford found Sharp, who turned and calmly slotted to seal the win and move United up to second in League One.
