It's not exactly a cutting analysis but there's so much pleasure to be had here for anyone who simply had to be "home by six" on a Sunday night in the 1970s and '80s. Mostly this two-part doco (both parts screen back-to-back tonight) is an affectionate and sometimes riotous trip down memory lane, but it's also studded with nuggets of actual information, from behind-the-scenes details of the show's production, to the way it helped shape one of the most fruitful periods in Australian popular music.

THE VOICE

Season final ***1/2

7.30pm, Nine

Although they've often been a test of endurance (the ad breaks, especially, have felt interminable) the "lives" have also been tremendous this season, with both some standout performances and some interesting (if sometimes not entirely coherent) contributions from the coaches/judges. Tonight's the big decider, and while at the time of writing the finalists had not been decided, the field's been so strong this year one suspects it'll be impossible to be disappointed in the outcome, whichever way the cards fall.

Keep an eye on the shoes tonight – and ask yourself (a) where a secret agent on the lam could get her hands on them and (b) why a secret agent on the lam would wear them. Yes, they're amazing. But God help her if she actually has to make a run for it. Although, I guess, in the same scene she is wielding a high-powered sniper rifle, so maybe she's figuring she won't have to run. She'll just blast her way out. As usual, it's all an entertaining mix of well-plotted thriller and sheer craziness. And great shoes.
