Karan Johar's ambitious project Shuddhi, has faced many a hurdle since it was announced. First, the producer was not able to finalise on the leads. Initially Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan were to play the lead in the film, but both of them walked out. Then we heard that Salman Khan was signed for the movie, but the actor had trouble giving dates for it. Finally the news was that Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt had been roped in for the project. Sanjay Dutt, who was to play a baddie in the magnum opus also walked out, reportedly, as he did not want to play a negative role in the film.

But, now it seems that the film, slated to release on Diwali 2016, has been shelved. Although no official statement has been made, a report in the Times Of India said that the Karan Malhotra directorial may have been put on hold yet again.

In a media interaction at the time of Baahubali's release, Karan seemed upset when he was asked about the film.

"Oh my god, oh my god, I am folding my hands and bowing down to you all, stop asking me questions about Shuddhi. I don't know what kind of bad omen the movie is going through, I am not able to make it," Karan had said.
