Trainer Peter Moody grabs early double at Caulfield

Peter Moody might not have been talking to the media at Caulfield but his horses were in fine form, giving the Caulfield trainer an early double with Abidewithme ($4.80) in the Cape Grim Beef Plate and Gold Symphony ($9) in the group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes.

Gold Symphony enjoyed a nice run behind the speed before showing plenty of fight late to beat the unlucky Ready For Victory ($4.20) by a head.

"There might have been a couple of good runs behind him but he puts himself in the spot and when you ask him for a supreme effort he attacks the line," his jockey Glen Boss said.

Former New Zealand-trained mare Bounding enhanced her already impressive record with an easy win at her first start for Peter and Paul Snowden in the Theshark.com.au Stakes (1100m), making it eight wins and six placings from 15 starts.

"I've got a long-range plan ahead and that's the reason we came here today," Peter Snowden said.

Snowden said Bounding will likely have her next start in Sydney, before returning to Caulfield for the group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) on September 26.

Trainer Lee Hope was concerned about the deteriorating track but it posed no problems for progressive mare Madam Gangster ($11), which showed plenty of determination to just hold off Hazard ($10) to win the group 3 William Hill Stakes.

Hope said Madam Gangster will now progress on to the group 2 Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in two weeks.

Mike Moroney was comparing Alaskan Rose with his best three-year-old fillies, after the daughter of Encosta De Lago made it two wins in as many starts in the Montague Tree Hcp (1400m). "Probably the best filly I've ever had was Happyanunoit, who won four group 1s in New Zealand and in the [United] States and this filly could be as good. She's very similar," Moroney said.

Moroney said he is likely to give Alaskan Rose and easy time before aiming at the group 2 1000 Guineas Prelude (1400m) on September 26.
