SOI to contest Delhi University Students Union elections

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced that its students wing - Students Organisation of India (SOI) will contest Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) polls.

Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK -who is also president of Delhi unit of SAD, DSGMC general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa made this announcement after SOI's victory in Punjab university polls.

Apart from DUSU polls GK announced that SOI would also contest students polls in three colleges - Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa college( North campus), Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce (Pitampura), and Guru Nanak Dev College (Dev Nagar). Calling youth as a future of the country GK called upon them to play proactive role in nation building and said that SAD would make SOI active in Delhi. GK adds that in their student life if the youth gets the practical training of changing the future of country for better, they would not indulge in blaming the system.

"The students need to be given practical training to play a role bringing positive change in the country," GK reiterated.

GK also announced Gagandep Singh as the president of SOI in Delhi and Jasraj Singh as general secretary. Former MLA Harmeet Singh Kalka has been nominated as SAD coordinator with SOI. Answering queries form media-persons GK said that SOI would spread message of selfless service to humanity, and working above religion given by the Sikh Gurus. On being asked about contesting polls against ABVP, GK said that SOI have been contesting students polls in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh independently.

Sirsa termed the development of SOI contesting students polls in DUSU as a step to strengthen SAD. He said the hardworking workers of the party would be given important positions. He also asked all groups that SOI should not be considered a weak group. Terming women security as major issue Sirsa said SAD would also give representation to the female candidates to contest polls.
