Thirteen-year-old E. Chintu, who was paralyzed after being beaten by his tutor at Godavarru village in Kankipadu mandal in Krishna district on August 10, breathed his last on Friday evening.
Doctors at the Government General Hospital (GGH), where he had been undergoing treatment for a serious spinal injury, declared the boy dead. The body will be handed over to parents Ramaiah and Durga on Saturday after a post-mortem procedure.
The boy’s grandmother Rani told The Hindu that Chintu’s condition had shown signs of improvement a couple of days ago. He was able to talk a bit but then suffered a series of seizures at around 8 p.m. Thursday. Thereafter he developed a severe breathing problem and his condition deteriorated beyond resuscitation.
“We prayed that our child should come out of hospital even if he is permanently disabled but fate decided otherwise,” said the grandmother, Rani, demanding that stringent punishment be meted to the teacher who beat Chintu.
The boy’s parents were crestfallen, wailing over Chintu’s body inconsolably after the doctors conveyed the sad news.
