Several TV organizations have launched a fund to support the families of Alison Parker and Adam Ward, the two Virginia journalists gunned down live on air during a WDBJ morning show on Wednesday.
The National Assn. of Broadcasters, the Radio and Television Digital News Assn. and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences are contributing and organizing the fund. The NAB said that broadcasters have already committed $40,000.
The organizations said that an additional contribution will be made to Vicki Gardner, the executive director of a local chamber of commerce who was being interviewed by Parker during the live shoot from Smith Mountain Lake. Gardner was shot in the back, and was listed in good condition. Her husband told CNN that she has a “long recovery period ahead.”
Any remaining funds will go to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Contributions to the fund can be made to NAB Alison and Adam Memorial Fund, c/o NAB, 1771 N Street NW, Washington DC 20036.
