It's been more than one month since Sony released the new Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to Xperia Z3 and Z2 series phones, the company is reportedly ready to roll out the same for Xperia Z1 series and other select devices.

The new firmware (build-number: 14.6.A.0.368), bound for Xperia Z1 (C6902, C6903, C6943, C6906), Z1 Compact (D5503) and Z Ultra (C6802, C6833, C6843, C6806) and another software (build version:19.4.A.0.180) for Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra, has passed the certification from PTCRB, reported Xperia Blog.

PTCRB is a forum of cellular operators that authorises certification programme for devices operating telecommunication bands in North America. The company usually takes a few days or a week to deploy the update en masse to the devices, after getting necessary certifications.

This means that  Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, Z Ultra, Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra models might get the update by this weekend or early September.

For the uninitiated, the new Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is said to bring enhanced stability and an improved ART (Android Run Time), making apps open faster than before. Issues with "Okay Google" have also reportedly been fixed.

The new update will bring Wi-Fi toggle option to Quick Settings alongside Bluetooth, apart from a fix for the memory leak issue that was reported in Android 5.0 Lollipop causing apps to crash abruptly without warning. It also rectifies random app crashes of dialer and messaging apps as well.

However, we are not sure whether Sony will include security software patch to plug the dreaded security loophole, Stagefright bug.
