Kindle Unlimited, a subscription based model where you can read books or listen to audio books by paying fees, will now be available in India at Rs 199 per month.

This service could be launched in India next week via Amazon India, according to sources.

It was unveiled for the first time in the US in July 2014 to give users unlimited access to books and audio books. At that time the service was priced at $9.99 per month or about Rs 660.

But its service in India would be substantially cheap to build customer base. This service is useful for those who neither like to carry books, nor want to invest in e-Books.

In a digital world where users prefer e-Books or mobile reading, something like this could be a godsend, especially given the wide range of content on offers for the customers.

However, Kindle Unlimited cannot be a preferred choice for everyone because it might miss some of the blockbuster titles. Moreover, it's likely that Amazon India will have a different collection of books compared to the American Kindle store.

For now, we're going to treat this as a rumor until Amazon has more information to offer as it hasn't shared any details about Kindle Unlimited yet.

It is important to know that in the US, you get access to e-Books and audio books, on any of your devices - if you don't own a Kindle, then you can still make use of the subscription by using the Kindle app on your iOS or Android device.
