Official Government of India web portal goes offline for possible maintenance

The government of India's official web portal was partially offline at about 12:30 pm today. Attempts to access the website greeted us with an error message saying it was due to "technical problems".

A quick Is it Down Right Now? check netted us a "server is under maintenance" as the reason for the glitch. And while the home page was absolutely down, alternate links seemed to still be working, as we could Google pages and services normally on the portal and access them.

The portal was restored a few minutes later, and there's been no official word yet on why it was down at all. However, a little inconspicuous stamp at the bottom of the page says, "Last reviewed and updated on 28 Aug, 2015." Good to know the portal is under regular maintenance.
