Marc Marquez still can't believe he's competing against his hero - Valentino Rossi.

"I'm only 22 years old and Valentino has been competing and racing in Moto GP for 20 years," he tells Newsbeat.

"I remember when I was five years old watching him on TV fighting for the championship. It's difficult to imagine."

In 2013, Marquez became the youngest rider to clinch the title of Moto GP world champion.

He won again last year but this season hasn't been his best.

As things stand he's 52 points behind both Valentino and Jorge Lorenzo.

That's unusual for Marquez - he started the 2014/15 season as the man to beat but now he appears to be fighting for third position.

"This year Valentino's really fast and it's more difficult but always when I have a battle with him it's a dream come true."

Does he think he can close the gap at Silverstone? He hopes so - but there's one thing worrying him and that's the British weather.

"At Silverstone it's a really nice circuit but everybody knows about the weather in England. It's raining and cold," he says.

"I'm sure it will rain but I hope it won't be on Sunday. If it does rain we will use the wet tyres and do our best."

Marquez points out it might not be a bad thing for him if it rains but it could be a problem for Valentino or Lorenzo, which he'll use to his advantage.

There are some positives to racing at Silverstone though - the fans.

"Here you see fans always have their face painted or with some special t-shirts and clothes.

"It's really nice to see and it's always exciting because it's nice for a rider to see different things.

"In Spain the fans like the motorbikes but in the UK they like the show."

There is something he does enjoy about competing in the UK though.

He says when he's at home in Spain he can't walk down the street without being recognised.

"In Spain I cannot be a normal guy," he tells Newsbeat.

"I try to be with the same friends as when I was younger. It helps me keep the same mentality and be the same person.

"I would like to be a normal guy. I still live in the same town, the same house.

"I like to be with my friends [but] it gets more and more difficult to be with them and to spend time with them.

"If you manage it well, you can be a normal guy and a Moto GP rider."
